Kevin Plowcha's Picks - 2/7/25
Best Bet: Race 1 – #5 Need Ur Opinion
Spot Play: Race 4 – #7 Sawyer’s Desire
Race 1: 5-1-3-4
(#5) Need Ur Opinion got stuck behind a horse after Miss Cadet blitzed to the lead, and never got room until it was too late. Hard to see her getting a bad trip in a short field. Merriman likely blasts and eliminates all doubt on that end.
Race 2: 3-2-5-6
(#3) Bigly always seems to be racing from mid pack, so a setup is kind of always needed, but he’s low enough where he can hit the board with consistency and jump up and win sometimes if he isn’t too far back. I think this can be his day.
Race 3: 1-2-3-5
(#1) Senditin Jim was a big winner in this class last week when aggressively handled. It’s hard to see a different look than the favorites sitting one two and battling it out in the stretch. I think both will be aggressively handled again and I’ll look for Jim to repeat.
Race 4: 7-4-8-3-2
(#7) Sawyer’s Desire has been racing well in similar levels at Northfield. When he’s forwardly placed, he tends to do well. Palone is on for (I believe) the first time and is a perfect match for this guy. Expecting a speed try.
Race 5: 5-4-8-7
(#5) Twin B Nation scored off the claim after a perfect pocket trip. He’s stayed sharp despite leaving the Burke barn a few starts ago, and I see no reason why Palone won’t have him in another spot to succeed.
Race 6: 1-3-5-6
(#1) Ossie The Second was a strong second when racing from the back in his latest. His back half was huge and certainly not something I expected. This week, he draws far inside instead of far outside, and while I don’t expect him to be on the lead, that newfound kick can easily allow him to pounce from mid pack. Also, he’s back on a regular rotation, which is another positive.
Race 7: 4-3-5-6-2
(#4) War Machine draws better after an even effort where he was forced to take back early. I don’t love that he faded like he did on 1/10, but he could sit pocket to the #6 and vault off that one’s helmet late. Count on a rebound effort.
Race 8: 3-6-2-5
(#3) Rocked N Loaded was one I liked last week in the Open. He was just a little too far back to get up for the win, but he raced great against this group. The track appeared to be playing towards closers, which you don’t see that often here. I would expect him to be driven aggressively this week. I’ll try him again.
Race 9: 6-2-4-7
(#6) Brooklets Banner had to make two moves in his latest from post eight – That’s not his trip. I’ll try him again off the claim for the Kreiser barn. Hard to not see him on the lead.
Race 10: 5-4-3-9 (Start of $5K GTD Late Pick-4 Pool!)
(#5) Major’s Song was a solid second when charging up the inside in his first start since November. Is he good enough to consistently beat Spitfire Oversees and this field in general? I don’t think so, but if he’s going to race like that off the bench and take a step forward this week? He can steal this one at a better price than you think.
Race 11: 6-7-9-1
(#6) Whiskey Break gets a big driver change after a solid third place finish. He appears to be rounding back into form and can get the right trip from Wrenn.
Race 12: 6-4-2-7
I’ll side with the droppers here. (#6) Rising MVP should get an aggressive steer which is a trip he thrives off when at mid level conditions like this.
Race 13: 6-8-2-3-1
(#6) Red Righthand Man N has showed good speed since arriving in the states and was only a length and a quarter away from the win last time. He’s clearly improving and now gets a new pilot. Third time’s the charm in the US.
