Kevin Plowcha's Picks - 1/8/26

Best Bet: Race 4 – #6 Eva’s Star

Spot Play: Race 11 – #5 Spartacus Blue Chip

Wild Card: Race 5 – #7 Californiastranger

Race 1: 2-5-6-1

(#2) All Hail The Queen had sneaky pace in her latest, and could be the horse who upsets the ML favorite if she falters in the lane.

Race 2: 3-2-7-4

(#3) Wizzy made a brief bobble at the start, but that didn’t stop her from making a big move in the final 3/8s and charging for the win. I’ll go right back to her this week.

Race 3: 1-6-5-4

(#1) Lyons Rhodamay just got picked off as last week’s heavy favorite, but she was pressured in the early stages. This is a class drop compared to two starts ago; She should rebound nicely.

Race 4: 6-4-1-2

(#6) Eva’s Star was a sharp winner two starts ago after a pocket trip, and backed that up with another strong win at Northfield. I’ll look for her win streak to continue.

Race 5: 7-1-2-4

(#7) Californiastranger is an interesting shipper who had been more than holding her own against fillies and mares in Ohio. If the new shooter is put into play, I like her chances.

Race 6: 6-5-2-7

(#6) Laughing Intherain has been slowly but surely improving for the current barn, with last week being her best effort. Another step forward could see her get the job done.

Race 7: 1-4-5-6

(#1) Adalecia made a ton of sense last time but was picked off in the stretch by the aforementioned streaking Eva’s Star. It’s likely to line up 1-4 in the early stages. She will be the one to catch.

Race 8: 1-5-8-7

I stared at this race for too long, and then ultimately settled on the horse who hasn’t raced since June and only raced six times last year. It’s an indictment on the rest of the field. (#1) Shine All The Way looked fine in his return qualifier, and Wrenn getting the call is more significant than I probably think. I’ll count on his class showing up against a group that makes you want to pull your hair out.

Race 9: 6-2-4-5

(#6) Nulli Secondus continues to knock on the door in recent weeks. He was a solid second last time, and has enough gate speed to get into contention again.

Race 10: 4-5-1-2

(#4) Redwhite N Goo still has a decent burst to him, and now gets a key class drop that should allow him to grind into contention. I’ll give him the edge.

Race 11: 5-1-3-4

(#5) Spartacus Blue Chip drops to the bottom claiming level after holding his own, for the most part, against tougher. He could follow the same path as Filthy McNasty did yesterday.

Race 12: 6-3-1-8-4

(#6) Shinkansen got to the outside at the top of the stretch and closed very well to finish second. He can be quirky, but if he puts it all together, I like his chances.
